Burning Man is a week-long annual event held in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. The event is described by many participants as an experiment in community, art, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance.
As a dabbling artist, camper, raver, hippie, bicyclist, pyromaniac, and juggler, it seemed everywhere I went online people were talking about this Burning Man thing. Being a bit shy and conservative I felt conflicted in my desire to go, but finally decided it sounded like a good once in a lifetime experience. Sadly, two weeks after I bought my ticket, my father unexpectedly died. I almost canceled the trip, but figuring I had nothing else to lose decided to make the jump. As cliché as it sounds, this event changed my life. I was met by a series of guardian angels, my view of the world was changed, and for the first time in my grief I didn't feel alone. Oh yes, and I had a hell of a good time too! Interestingly, 2008 is notoriously remembered for it's horrible playa conditions and all-day white outs, so every year after that felt like a luxury resort!
NOTE: These pictures were taken with a little point-and-shoot panasonic camera. For better quality pictures check out the following Burning Man years, when I bring my DSLR.
These photos are my gift to the Burner community and free to download at full-size for personal use. They are not legally allowed to be sold, so please don't use them for profit or without permission! Thanks :)
